Happy Halloween

This is my third year of celebrating the Day of the Dead.  This year's innovation is  a slightly elevated altar.  There is some candy in case some ghosts and goblins come to the door. Perhaps I'll also have to gobble some of it up myself.  Happy Halloween, dear readers.

  1. Happy Halloween to you, too! I am finally in the deafening roar of our house repair. Yesterday it sounded like warfare under our house. Every blow made the cracks in our sheetrock inside the house spread farther. Even the roof shingles shifted. Some of the shingles are jutting up like wings! We have another month at least of chaos before it is all over. I had no idea how huge a job re-painting our house was going to be, but we definitely look like a Halloween house now. I don't know when I'll make it back to blogland. Just wanted to stop in to say hi! xo Kari

  2. Kari, it is so good to hear from you...remodeling is definitely a high stress activity! (Wish you could show us pictures.) It's definitely worth it in the end, but getting there is a noisy chore. I'm looking forward to your return and hope you have some peaceful places to escape to in the meantime...

  3. Hi Suzanna, halloween isn't really celebrated here, but I am fascinated by what happens in other places!

  4. Hi Elizabeth, the Day of the Dead is pretty new to me; it is really a wonderful way to celebrate life by paying homage to ancestors. I have photos and flowers and candles on my altar. In Mexico I've heard it goes on for days, with parties and music in the cemeteries etc. Halloween here is mostly dress up and trick or treating for candy/snacks. Some people make very elaborate haunted houses for the trick or treaters to visit. Each year it seems we are celebrating this time of year more thoroughly. Do you have anything like this when it is autumn there?

  7. The most attractive, unthreatening halloween table I have seen. Really a delight. Just spooky enough. Gilly

  8. Hi Gilly! Thanks! Next year I think I'll add a skeleton or 2 and some chocolate. Meanwhile I love having this around and think I'll leave it up till Thanksgiving. Glad you visited!
