A portrait

...of myself, walking in the rain, with a head-cold.

The shibori class is so interesting...for part of lesson 2, I made:

The square on the right was the lesson, then I made the strip on the left to use as a border on the self-portrait. There is much to learn.

  1. Hi Suzanna,

    Wonderful!

Love the rain effect! Kind of reminds me of the way that rain is often portrayed in traditional Japenese wood block prints, particularly those by my favorite, Hiroshige!

Your shibori is coming on nicely. You must be thrilled with these results. In the square I see a landscape... water falling, sun/moon, mountains. Very peaceful to rest ones eye on. Will you stitch on that?

    Nice work! :)

  2. Catherine, thank you so much! I hadn't thought of stitching on it...I was thinking of it as just a sampler, but now I'm seeing it a little differently. The shibori is a very magical process...so much happens and it is a big surprise.

  3. Beautiful work Suzanne! : ) Have you seen my mom's penny-whistle quiltlet? She sent me a picture (it's not completed yet) and it looks so cool. I love to see your quilting projects, thank you!

  6. It must be so much fun following this course. And you've got lovely results! And great to make your own cloth own fabric for the self-portrait.
I've always been a bit afraid to follow an on-line course, I had doubts about it, whether it would be possible to learn something in this way. Your results show me that it is possible!

  7. Sandra, one of the things I like about the course is being able to do the lessons on my own time schedule. Glennis is offering skype sessions so we can speak with her, ask questions etc., and the lessons are organized and presented in an easily understandable way. It surprises me how much I'm enjoying making my own cloth for projects and it raises interesting possibilities. Thanks!

  8. Thank you for joining me in France!
What fascinating things you are doing. I tried dying cloth some years ago and would love to dye and paint silk.
