I've been working on a contribution to India Flint's Solace Project, and today, finished it up! The top is raw silk dyed with tea and ??? (I forget)...embroidered with DNC embroidery floss...sometimes one, sometimes two strands...I had to fill in the letters quite a bit after the first go round. Then I backed it with silk from worn out long johns dyed with eucalyptus and liquidamber leaves...it's very soft and hangs nicely. The words are from the bluegrass gospel song "Peace Like a River"
I've been participating in a classical guitar class that takes place in the community center art room...one day I was feeling "observed", turned around and noticed these stacked up chairs...
Gilly has really perfected her rarin' to go, sit-up pose...
Buggy came to visit Gilly one day. Gilly looks a little nervous because this was a first, but it turned out fine.
I'm struggling with the end of a bad cold that has a very unenjoyable cough...today I rested nearly all day. Now that it's almost bedtime, I'm wide awake.
That's all for now...Happy Belated International Day of Happiness (yesterday)!
xoxo, s.
have much enjoyed your entertaining post, haha to the 'watchful chairs'
ReplyDeleteI also felt a pang (of guilt?) as I too had intended on making a flag and had completely forgotten, hadn't even started if I'm honest, maybe try again!! as I do like your's
who's Buggy?
Hi Saskia,
DeleteI hope you'll make a flag...I want to see what you do...All the while stitching and thinking about the meaning of solace...maybe that increases the possibility of it in our upside down world...
Buggy looks like a sister to Gilly...she's maybe twice as big, with such a different personality. I think they like each other but they were a bit stand offish, at least until her mom and I left for a lunch and then who knows what happened! No damage though...
Oh my, how did I miss this post???!
ReplyDeleteThat is one fine flag, Suzanna - may I add this link to my 'Solace Project' blogroll? I better get cracking if I hope to finish - June 20 is gonna be here in no time!
Such cute pups - great companionship ;>]
Hi Christi...thank you! and yes, please add this link to the Solace Project blogroll...it's so interesting to see what people are doing...and it's such a fine idea. Can't wait to see yours!
DeleteSuzanna, your flag is beautiful. Thank you for sharing the information -- I missed this project and would love to join in. Ah, that Gilly is a darling. Hope you're feeling better. I thought at first glance you were making a rain flag! xo
ReplyDeleteHi Peggy, oh I do hope you'll join in! A rain flag is a really good idea...I am finally feeling better...still have a cough and the sniffles, but I feel more like myself each day. Lots of people around here have caught this bug...
DeleteI have a Solace flag on my to-do list, so thankyou for the reminder , Suzanna. There's still a little time. Yours is just beautiful, and I love that you forgot what you dyed it with, along with the onion skins. I hope you're feeling much better now.
ReplyDeleteHi Nanette! Thank you so much for the good wishes...finally I am feeling better. I hope you'll make a solace flag...and be sure to let us see it...
DeleteLove this peace/solace flag ... it will surely play well with the indigo
ReplyDeleteHi Liz...thank you! I'm really interested to see how it responds to the indigo...such an inspiring project...
