How full is the moon?

...here comes August...how did this happen so fast? June seemed slow and July flew by.  Tomorrow I'll start working on my grandson's quilt again because he and his family are coming to visit soon.  But meanwhile...

My apple tree has been Very Productive.  It's hard to keep up...so far one apple pie and several containers of apple sauce.  Here are apples on the tree:

And here they are on the ground:

This year I've been taking the windfalls to the Community Swap...trading apples for plums and lemons and cucumbers and exchanging kale for collard greens and beans.  I'm trying to make use of the limited space in my yard, and I have a LOT to learn about it all.  Here's a photo of one of the Swap tables...things don't stay on them very long...it only lasts one half hour...people keep arriving with new offerings...I really like meeting my fellow town-dwellers this way.

Also I wanted to show you how the Edgar Memorial Portrait is coming:

And here is his mom, Molly, in real life...she has started to sing again, and participate in games with Gilly.  More on that at another time.

I added some unintelligible grief markings to this one, which has to do with my experiences of wishing things had turned out differently regarding Edgar's lifespan, but finally accepting that it was what it was and I'm so very glad to have known him:

And here is the start of my first portrait of dear rambunctious Gilly, who right now is having a little time-out.  She gets a little crazy at night, ( I think the full moon is making a contribution), but often settles down in the crate.  We're learning together about harmonious living.

This is the news from here...sending you love and wishing all of us the beginning of a good August and the fullness of your heart and times this full Moon.

  3. Suzanna , I always admire your work and the Edgar felt is very beautiful, quiet and a little sad, but Gilly's portrait is wonderful. I see Gilly's joy and excitement at being out and about in an amazing world. Thank you for posting your work!
By the way I saw that same moon last night = strange to have different seasons and live in places so far apart, but still share the same moon.

    1. Elizabeth! Thank you so much. I love doing animal portraits...I used to paint them but the felt seems an even better medium.

What a moon it is! I've been thinking about how round the world is lately too...it still seems amazing that you're having winter now. Do you have Google Earth? It gives a dizzying sense of roundness...

    1. Hi Margaret...I have had a VERY Unusual day, and while I can't blame it totally on the full moon, I think it's likely that she made a big contribution...

  5. I scrolled all the way down and when I got to that endearing piece of dear little Gilly, a long, protracted "aaaaawwwwwwwwww" came out. THAT is priceless!

    A lovely post, Suzanna.

  6. Hi, Suzanna. I would bring figs to your food swap--guess I'll have to make jam. Your felt work is beautiful and I especially liked your i-pad cover. Looking forward to following your projects.

    1. Hi Nadia, your figs would be quite welcome! I'm glad to have discovered your blog and to learn about your interesting life...I don't venture away too often so I especially relish learning about other places...I like the idea of taking the grandchildren to the museum to draw, and comparing impressions that way...

  7. These pieces are amazing, Suzanna, I like how they come from your heart. And your apple moon photo appears to be two worlds coming together, I just linked to it, hope you don't mind. The community swap table is so much more, isn't it? -- thanks for planting the seeds by showing it. xo

    1. Peggy, thank you so much...yes, I've been rather enchanted by the community swap...I'm not very organized as a gardener but it amazes me how much is possible in an urban area; the delight of growth and sharing...am happy to spread the word...

  10. Love the softness and the moons in the corners of Edgar's portrait and the curiosity beaming out of Gilly's. Picked about 20 pounds or so of Yellow Transparent Apples last weekend. Making applesauce today.

    1. Thanks, Deb! I've never heard of the Yellow Transparent Apple...what an intriguing name...wondering if they blend in with the leaves so are not so visible?? I hope you'll post a photo of the applesauce...I'm planning to make some more today too!
