On this day of Equinox and Full Moon, after reading Jude's posting about weaving, I noticed many many web weavings in my neighbor's yard. The spiders had been busy...almost every available space was taken...a mine field for flying insects. The webs glistened in the sunlight like gossamer dinner plates. Here is one:
Baa baa black sheep:
Then, I went to visit the pigs and chickens and geese at the Little Farm nearby, but they were all inside for the night. The wild turkeys were stopping by to see what they could glean. Here are some feathers:
And here is a turkey portrait; she has stirred up the pebbles with her beautiful feet, hoping for some leftover seeds:
Happy Autumn, everyone...

I used to work on a community farm and I was very fond of the turkey who pottered around with the chooks. She looks a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteThey are such beautifully colored creatures...normally it's hard to get close to them, but they were so intent on their task...
ReplyDeletewow, that is some web, and i love black sheep.
ReplyDeleteHi Jude...those spiders! the camera doesn't begin to show how they sling their threads down from the treetop to intersect with anchor points near the ground and then build cross threads for stability. This morning I watched one weaving...all her legs in motion, precisely placing each thread the correct distance from the last row. I wonder if they communicate with each other so that no web collides with another.
ReplyDeleteSpiders everywhere around here right now! It's hard for me to get a picture I like. What amazing horns on the woolly beast.
ReplyDeleteI very seldom see that the webs have caught anything...I think she must rush right over to gobble up the prey...yesterday afternoon I watched some little moths very cleverly avoid capture...
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cheerful post Suzanna - Love the portrait of the turkey. Thanks for coming over to visit me - Hugs Nat
